Weather once again plays the main role with your mortar or jointing sand to completely disappear after a few year's. It is a very tedious task to grind out, and then even more when filling with a mortar mix, it can be a long and drawn out process.
Luckily patios are the easiest to re-point, although grinding out the old bits can be a knee and back aching task. But, then comes the final bit, the easy bit! We're lucky to have jointing compounds that can simply be brushed in to the empty patio joints, and they come in different colours to suit your stone work. Jointing compounds can save so much time and effort, but have to be applied a certain way and then cured without interference, the filled and finished joints look spectacular and also stop the weeds from coming back through.
This is the hard bit! Block paving looks fantastic, but once those weeds and moss start coming through, the paving needs a little love given to bring back to life.
The process is pressure Washing the dirt and grime in-between each paving block, and re-sanding with a silica sand in order for the sand to harden and cure in time, creating a perfect joint on each paving block, bring your drive way or block paving paths back to a new lease of life
Bricks definitely lose their mortar over the years, some faster than others due to exposure to the harsh weather and UV. There's nothing worst than gaps in the wall, house or steps.
Walls can look fantastic again with a good repoint and clean down. Repointing also offers security from the wall losing bricks and potentially causing it to fall down.
